Sami Labs Limited is a research based transnational health-science company with its headquarters in Bangalore. Sami Labs is involved in the manufacturing and marketing of nutraceutical and Cosmeceuticals ingredients, specialty chemicals, Probiotics, flavors and fragrances and finished formulation in the global market.

Challenges
With multiple manufacturing facilities spread across India and subsidiaries in USA, Japan, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East there is huge overflow of information at Sami Labs. Ensuring the safety and confidentiality of the information and data is mandatory and of the highest priority here. The group has a number of International Patents and security is especially important in the collaborative R&D laboratories and facilities of the Group located in different geographies to protect its IP.

Edkal Solutions
To enhance the security features provided by Edkal in its ERP package implemented at Sami Labs and Group companies, which incorporates role based security authentication and audit trails, recently Secure Virtual Private Network, SSL VPN, was implemented. This was implemented by the Groups Information Technology provider Edkal Business Solutions to ensure that only authorized users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.

Assessment
Yukthi Systems was called in to conduct a security audit of the VPN implemented at Sami Labs. Yukthi Systems did the study and advised on general architecture, logical placements and IT Security infrastructure, Inter-office links and Internet Connectivity. Yukthi’s report had an external, unbiased view of data security and critical procedures giving management the crucial insight required into the IT setup and its functioning. The system was successfully put in place to meet the requirements.
